Hi everyone!
As erotica writers, we're exposed to all sorts of different subgenres, some that broaden our horizons and to help hone our craft!
But are there any subgenres that you avoid? That don't pique your interest?
Mine is cuckold erotica. I'm sure I'm missing something with this, but to me, when it comes to sex everyone should be having fun? So the idea of someone being cheated on/denied sex isn't really sexy at all...
What about you guys?

Cuckolding used to repel me but the more research I've done the more I understand it. For the male participants, the being cheated on/denied aspect is what gets them off. The same way someone into BDSM enjoys binding and pain, the cuckold enjoys being humiliated and their wife being desirable to other men. Not saying it's my cup of tea, but the kink doesn't bother me as much as it used to.
That said, a genre I do avoid overlaps with cuckold. It's the racial, BBC stuff. I think I understand the allure, but it has problematic connotations. If you've seen Get Out, that's basically the issue at play. Yes, you're ostensibly saying black men are so much more virile than white men, but a lot of that genre plays into racial stereotypes. It's not complimentary if these black "bulls" are considered more animalistic than the white men they're cuckolding. It's...not great.
I always feel weird about having certain boundaries, since I write in a lot of genres - and largely in taboo. It's difficult to judge when your bread and butter is incest, but it is a thriving genre and I like to think I make it classy. A lot of titles in that camp can also be exploitative, which is why I fall more on the "incest romance" side of the smut spectrum. I'm not interested in the "No, daddy, don't!" noncon/dubcon stuff. I'm more of a, "Shh, daddy, it'll be our little secret" type.

Hmm, maybe it's something I need to research more then? I don't think I'd want to write about it, but I'd like to understand it. And I see what you mean about racial stereotypes!
Yes, I really shy away from noncon stuff :/. The "Shh, it'll be our little secret" is so much more fun/sexy/interesting than just someone being forced to do something they don't want!

I think the reason cuckold seems "weird" to some (most?) of us is because we naturally gravitate to more confident men. I am WAY more into being dominated by a big, bold male, and the thought of him WANTING me to find another partner is just not how I'm wired. I like being submissive and being cared for, and I am way too jealous to share my man or want to be shared by anyone else. But I also have fantasies about living in a polyamorous relationship with my hubby and my bff, so...

This is a great topic to discuss!
Like Ashley, I shy away from the cuckold stuff. It has been so politicized over the last several months, with the alt-right calling any liberal man a "cuck" that it can't be avoided. And when you factor in the racial element (with white men supposedly being aroused as a black stud takes their wives)...well, just ick, as far as I am concerned.
I also do not enjoy BD/sm to any large consent, and any sort of rape/dubcon/reluctance/mind control. I have done a few stories with BD/sm in them, but they have never been the major focus.
I have done pretty much everything else, up to and including incest, MILF, lesbian, Futa (only one, but it was one of my favorite stories), urban fantasy, high fantasy, and sci-fi. i am happiest when I am doing sci-fi;/fantasy, but MILF/taboo pays the bills, so to speak.

veronicasloan - Yes I can be a pretty jealous person too, so I get that alana - Funny you should say that, I've always been really against noncon/dubcon stuff, but in the next book in my futa series, I'm including some blackmail where the main character has to live with her futa blackmailer and cater to her every whim. But the reason I'm enjoying it, *spoiler!* is because I know the blackmailer will get what's coming to her, and the main character has a HEA/HFN ending with a better person (which is the best kind of ending imo!). I think that's the only reason I can write it this time, because otherwise I would NOT like a character to do what they don't want to do... I like sex to be like a full bus: everyone's on board!
